:- 5.0 out of 5 stars from Seth -- An engaging blend of western and fantasy. : I keep an eye out for good fantasy books set in a western background, but I rarely find anything fitting that description. It’s a fun concept but for whatever reason there just isn’t much out there outside of one trilogy by Brandon Sanderson and a few stories by Joe R. Lansdale. So I was thrilled to come across this book, it blends a lot of western iconography with a twist a fantasy. Add in an engaging story, some interesting characters, and good balance between grit and humor and this book turned out to be a delight of a read. I highly recommend and cannot wait for a sequel. While not my usual genre, it was recommended to me and I paged through it in one weekend. An interesting supernatural spin on the old west gunslinger novel with monsters, vampires. Toussaint was a very fun side character throughout the book and would love to see Cal's journey continue with Toussaint by his side in future books . I look forward to reading more! This book is like Harry Potter meets Twilight in the Wild West… and I am HERE FOR IT! I couldn’t put it down and finished it in one (long) sitting.
